Weston Park International 99
This is now firmly lodged in the 4x4 calendar as a "must go to" event ... if you haven't marked your diary do it now, September 4th and 5th, the weekend immediately after the August Bank Holiday, yes that last break of great Summer weather ! Located off the A5 between Telford, Shropshire and Cannock the historic setting of Weston Park is easily found and centrally situated.
This
year's show will include an Off-Road Motorsport
Display Area which will take the form of a
dedicated area where a vast selection of competitive off-road
machines will be displayed. It is planned as a stationary display
so you'll be able to get all around the machinery, talk to the
owners, drivers and developers and glean valuable tips and advice
on all matters off-road. There will be comp safari motors,
triallers, and quad racers, truck triallers, hill climbers and
even tractor pulling machines, and for the year 2000 this display
will be fully active !
The show itself will include an excellent three-mile "Park Drive" off-road public scenic route with boggy options en route and lots of interesting challenges. This course will be suitable for all 4x4s with easy/hard options, so great for all drivers whether experienced or not, and everything will be marshalled for your safety and help. For those without a 4x4 there will be Off-Road Passenger Rides provided by members of GLASS (Green Lane Association) raising funds for DORA (Disabled Off Road Access).
There's also the infamous vehicle swallowing 300ft "SP Holding" Mud Run which gives the public something of the idea a 4x4 can do, so getting muddy is an integral part of the whole weekend. Last year it was 200ft, this year its 300ft long, so the recovery rope will be getting even longer ! If your particular interest is in heavy off-roaders, look no further, the Heavy Vehicle Play Area is dedicated to those mammoth 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 machines where they can wallow to the great delights of owners and on-lookers alike.
Every show has an Autojumble and Weston Park will be no exception, a giant autojumble for all kinds of off-road vehicles, not just Land Rovers, and if you're into spending money there will be a dedicated area for vehicle sales too. The key thing to remember is that this show is a family show, evening entertainment will be aimed at all the family, two discos (one for adults and one for kids) and throughout the day the kids will have plenty to do.
