Specialist Off-Road Vehicle Feature - August 1999

This month we've got a different angle on our regular specialist off-road vehicle. Rather than some photographs and description with technical data we're offering you the opportunity to tell us all about the DUKW amphibious truck pictured here.

This particular machine was one of three in service on the sandy beaches of Southport in South Lancashire utilised by the local council for rescuing stranded members of the public on distant sand banks. They also spent a fair amount of time extracting bogged 4x4s who ventured too far out onto the soft muddy coastal banks.
